UK scientists predict a major climate shift to a much cooler earth. A new Little Ice Age?

Scientists at the University of Southampton have predicted that  a cooling of the Atlantic Ocean could cool global temperatures by half a degree.  Dr Gerard McCarthy says that thie predicted cooling phase will influence temperature, rainfall, drought and even the frequency of hurricanes in many regions of the world".  They base they conclusions on ocean sensor arrays and 100 years of sea level data. He also said "sea surface temperatures in the Atlantic vary between warm and cold over time scales of many decades" He continued   " decadal variability, called the Atlantic Multi-decadal Oscillation(AMO) is a notable feature of any Atlantic Ocean and the climate of the regions it influences".  dr david Smeed a co-author said that the AMO is declining which will result in cooler surface waters.  Atlantic cooling can impact the climate for decades.  this means cooler global temperatures extending the "pause" in global warming.

Scientists from Germany to India have argued that weakening solar activity could bring about another" Little Ice Age".  Jurgen Lange a physicist from the German based European Institute for Climate and Energy(EIKE) has predicted a drop in global temperature due to diminishing solar activity.Virginia based Vencore weather has reported that the solar sunspot count is at its lowest for over a hundred years. The present solar cycle 24 has fewer sunspots than any of the previous 23 cycles in spite of being in the solar maximum phase.     Declining or zero sunspots are a sure indicator of a cooling earth.

  1. A new cooling in sight...
Dalton type or worse, Maunder type?
